Francisco (PAKO) Alvarado

PAKOART

My work reflects life experiences through various colorful abstractions.

My inspiration comes from nature and my travels.

Using bold colors and patterns I am constantly exploring new territory.

I utilize both technology and hands on manipulation of acrylic paint, mixed media and digital imaging to create my work.

My series, Without Brushes, consists of drawings made on an IPad and later finished with a photo editing tool. These artistic explorations took me in a new direction of combining my paintings into a series of Digital Art.

I am a member of the Los Angeles Art Association/ Gallery 825 and the Silver Lake Art Community (SLAC)

I am also an active member of the FAUX SHO’, a bimonthly group show that focuses on different art movement/genre, where every show is interpreted by a diverse group of artists, each negotiating the fine balance of replication and free interpretation of a masterpiece.

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Ecuador, Francisco’s journey as an artist began when he was six years old.  After studying art at school, he was influenced by his art teacher Mr. Andrade who encouraged his passion for drawing. During his stays with his father he would spend the afternoons drawing from the collection of art books from Museums in Europe, “my earliest recollections – Drawing portraits of my friends, Elephants, Rhinoceros, Zebras and Giraffes.”

His physical maps work was recognized in school, “this encouraged me to continue drawing and painting - my dream was to work in animation and I never thought I would be able to do that.”

In 1969 Francisco and his brother Bolivar got on a plane to reunite with their Mother and Uncles in Glendale California.

The next paintings were influenced by the artists of the 70s like Peter Max.

There were times in his life where he had to put his work on hold to be in life, it never stopped. Stopping the creative process for Francisco would be divergent.

He will not return to California until 1978 where he went to school at Long Beach State University where he study Mechanical Engineering.

In the early 80’s Francisco’s interest in technology, especially the introduction of the Apple computer gave him a new tool to create - Art. Francisco purchased a computer and learned to code. This decision developed a career working for the Entertainment Industry “I grew up in and work in a creative and technological community- Entertainment. This fast pace environment gave me a specialized skill set.”  During his travels Francisco will be creating art using a computer, drawing 3D modeling, and animation.

In 2008 Francisco’s wife passed away and his passion for art became a way of healing. His new girlfriend Karen who will later become his wife encouraged him to work with other artist.

Francisco met Quinton Bemiller – talented painter and instructor who will influence a major shift into his new style abstraction.  "I had never created abstract art before and that collaboration with Quinton and the rest of the artists of the group was cathartic. The resulting work was powerful to me and gave me a new venue to express my art. Artists that I admire and I believe are influence on my work, Pablo Picasso, Juan Uslé, Roberto Matta, Wilfredo Lam, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Gerhard Richter and David Hockney.”

Every experience for Francisco has been used to augment and broaden his visual communication.                          Combining his experiences, traditional paintings and technology Francisco continues to create and show his work both in Los Angeles and Social Network.
